So much is hidden from view.

1 02 2010

We depend on the food we are eating to give us our required nutrition We tend to assume that a Government Department is over-seeing all that we eat. After-all it’s quite important and they have done that sort of thing in the past.

However, today is a new world. A world in which governments either do not have control or turn a blind eye to numbers of things………..not the least of which is the content of foods.

Almost every processed food in the supermarket today has added sugar(including artificial sweeteners), salt and preservatives. They are often identified as something less sinister or hidden in VERY fine print so that many shoppers cannot see them. Be assured that most of the artificial sweeteners have an equally devastating effect on the insulin system as does cane sugar. In fact they often affect the endocrine system as well thereby marking sugar as a slightly better offering. Salt is a great and cheap way to make food taste better. The problem is that we have to keep increasing the intake levels to maintain a similar effect of “delight” from the food. Finally preservatives. What can one say? If they preserve the food what are they doing to you? I remember Grandma making her preserves (fruits and jams) once per year. The bottles and jars would sit in a cool shelf system and last one year……..until more fruit was available. Now she didn’t have access to preservatives let alone use them. The jams and fruits lasted. Today on the supermarket shelf the vast majority of these same products are full of preservatives. Well not quite, but they are used with seeming gay abandon when the question is……are they necessary at all?

So the suggestion from me is………….be very selective. Become knowledgeable about what is in the products that we are choosing. Be sensible. Be a little “old fashioned.”

Focus………aaagh not again? Yes, again

13 10 2009

However focus may not be what we usually consider.

We are what we mostly think about. In other words, we are a product of our dominating thoughts.

This is the area I have been working on for the last few months with even greater clarity. The task at hand is to literally focus on what on want, thereby eliminating all the “don’t wants”. As soon as we try not  to think of  something we don’t want……..ooops there it is again! Don’t think of the pink elephant in the corner of the room.  Now what are you thinking of?

How do you go with thinking only of what you want? So many of the great teachers convey that this is the way we construct our lives. Whether we think we are constructing it or not, we actually are. So for me the aim is to fill my mental space with as much “want” thinking and thereby ultimately eliminate the “don’t wants” thinking.

Let me know of your experiences.

That’s my area of current work……..and it’s paying off. I feel better, more relaxed and more aligned. There is more good coming my way, literally as I write this.

What experiences have you of this “phenomenon” of focusing with intent, only on what you want?

Come and see the Tsunami…..

1 10 2009

For me it’s the end of the day. It is now dark outside and the T.V. is on in the lounge. I had to change the station from all the drama in Samoa to “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”, so I wasn’t overloaded with negativity. I am now looking at ways to help the folks in Samoa and Asia who have been devastated by this recent Tsunami.

Did you know there are still tonnes of aid sitting on the wharves from the Boxing Day Tsunami which occurred almost five  years ago.  There was some $14billion USD raised. Did it get to those affected?? We’ll never really know.

What does this mean? Does it have any meaning? What can we all learn from these events? Given that local New Zealanders actually went down to the beach to “see the Tsunami”, I am not sure just whether we learn too much. Someone said, “it’s natural selection.”

I do know that this world is moving on a positive path. Surely some of us materially grow from these events, making those who lost their lives valuable in at least we do learn.

Social media, internet usage and television is fascinating

24 09 2009

The relationship between social media, internet usage and television is fascinating. A recent poll conducted by Research International has shown up some interesting stats.  To see more on this work view the whole article published in the NZ Herald Thurs 24th Sept.

“He said 97 per cent of internet users now researched online before making a significant purchase. Twenty-eight per cent bought goods as a result of reviews they read on the web and 34 per cent said they changed their mind about a product after reading a review online.”

The internet and all it’s amazing facilities have changed the way we do business. This research result shows up the extent of these changes. If you are marketing on the internet at any level, then it would pay to be aware of these trends.

I have been really enjoying the facilities of Twitter and Facebook, particularly of late. I have just discovered “Dropbox” today. What a great way to share files. A significant number of us multi-task through all these and many more, at the same time as watching T.V.

Now there’s even more opportunity to market accordingly.

The world is a generous place.

15 09 2009

No happy, clappy stuff. The title is indeed what I do mean. The world is a generous place.

So much of the reality of our lives would suggest something opposite. Indeed much of my life, I believed the universe was set up to punish me for transgressions. This surely comes from the Christian upbringing to which I was exposed. The big Guy in the sky rewarded those he saw as being good while punishing those who are bad or naughty.  Be really bad and he had Hell reserved for you.

I now know that we each construct our lives. Focus on what you want and the universe will deliver it.  Now this could still be a Big Guy in the sky giving us what we ask for……… Who knows? What I do know is that what we ask for, is given. The sadness that is so commonly showing up is that so much of the modern life is filled with stress, negativity, violence and dissappointment. If we focus on these, then that’s what shows up.

So the message is that we must focus on what we want and eliminate ( as much as possible) those things we don’t want. Now here is a little/big understanding. FOCUS ONLY ON WHAT YOU WANT. That will eliminate the other.  If I were to say, “Don’t focus on the pink elephant in the corner of the room”. What are you focussed on? Yes, the pink elephant. It is impossible to not focus on something. So therefore, focus only on what you want.

What are you focusing on now?

Is Twitter/Facebook/Bebo/Myspace/Linkdin/Digg/too much noise in our life?,

3 09 2009

How are you coping with all the info flowing around? Given the huge amounts, we must be doing okay, as the world is still functioning…….that’s always debateable of course!! I am a “glass half full” type of a guy so believe that all is well in fact. I just felt today the pressure of such amazing communication. I need to be careful with how I apply myself online and indeed offline as well. Awareness is perhaps the biggest safety valve. Combine that with the word “no” and we can be very powerful.
I just love Charles Haanel’s affirmation ” I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy”. Written well over a half century ago, the words are just as power-filled today.
The world is an improving place including all the technology.
With joy in bliss, David Payne
